Black Moth - Dec 18

Last night this black moth was on my painting “Out of the Ashes, Cricket!”. I haven’t seen such a moth before. It was the size of a regular butterfly 2” or 5cm. I’m wondering if it as adaption the black trunks that are in the forests around us since the Black Saturday Fires Love to hear from you if you know anything about this moth.
